Open Day 2026
Build Your Future at Politecnico di Milano
The Open Day at Politecnico di Milano is back with a mix of in-person and online events and activities: an opportunity to discover the Energy Engineering program, its educational content, training objectives, career opportunities, and admission procedures.
How it works
• In-person event on March 28
• Online meetings from March 30 to April 17 (for LT & LM in Energy Engineering: 7, 8 & 16 April)
In-person event – March 28
The in-person event will take place on March 28, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the campus in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci, 32, in Milan. You’ll find our information booth there, with an information point and many interactive experiences designed to introduce prospective students to the world of Energy.
There will also be 6 thematic sessions to explore the most current challenges in the energy sector:
9:00–9:45 AM – Energy Storage Technologies: Solar Power Even at Night!
How can we ensure clean energy when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing? Energy storage technologies are crucial to overcoming the intermittency of renewable sources and enabling the energy transition. In this session, we will explore innovative solutions that use thermodynamic cycles to store energy and release it when needed.
9:00–9:45 AM – Rotating Detonation Engines for the Energy of the Future!
Joint session organized in collaboration with: Energy Engineering (BSc + MSc), Mechanical Engineering (BSc + MSc), Aerospace Engineering (BSc + Aeronautical MSc).
Have you heard of rotating detonation engines? They promise efficiency and sustainability, with applications in air propulsion and electricity generation. Designing them is a major engineering challenge: in this session, we will explore this cutting-edge technology, involving supersonic flows, detonations, shock waves, and complex aero-thermo-mechanical phenomena!
11:00–11:45 AM – Energy, Development, and Geopolitics
Energy is the driving force behind the growth of modern societies. But how can it balance the need for sustainable development with an increasingly complex and unpredictable geopolitical context? In this multidisciplinary seminar, we will explore the role of the future energy engineer.
12:00–12:45 PM – Towards Zero-Emission Buildings
Joint session organized in collaboration with: Energy Engineering (BSc + MSc), Building Engineering (BSc + MSc).
In Europe, buildings account for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. But how can we reduce both without compromising indoor environmental quality? In this session, we will discuss the tools needed to design and retrofit buildings towards zero emissions.
1:00–1:45 PM – Nuclear, Renewables, and the Energy Trilemma
Joint session organized in collaboration with: Energy Engineering (BSc + MSc), Nuclear Engineering (MSc).
Nuclear energy is increasingly being discussed, from modular reactors and next-generation systems to fusion prospects. But how can we leverage the synergy between this technology and renewable sources to achieve decarbonization goals? This session explores one of the key challenges of the energy transition.
2:00–2:45 PM – A Full Tank of Energy for the Cars of Tomorrow!
From internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, from hybrids to fuel cells: discover how the technologies under the hood of our cars are evolving. A journey into the future of sustainable mobility, exploring propulsion systems and new energy carriers from an engineering perspective. Ready to go?
